Shooting (Power Kick)
Shooting is when you try to kick the ball past the goalie and score a goal.
Here are some tips (assuming you are kicking with your right foot, reverse directions if you are kicking with left foot):
Step 1: Set up
To practice, take two big steps back and one big step to the left. This will make you approach the ball at a slight angle.
Step 2: Body Position
Place your non-kicking foot next to the ball. You don’t want the foot too close or too far from the ball because it will negatively affect your balance and power. You can experiment, but the foot should be planted about 3-5 inches away from the ball.
Your toe should be pointing down and ankle should be locked.
Step 3: Contact
Your shoelaces (instep) should firmly make contact on the lower section of the ball.
Step 4: Follow Through
Your kicking leg should follow through after contact. The leg shouldn’t stop as soon as the ball is kicked. Try to get your leg to continue in the air from an additional few feet.
